The River Locks

It's a popular trend in Poland (and indeed in other parts of Europe) for couples to sign a padlock and lock it on a bridge. The trend has now reached Toruń...but with a difference. In stead of using a bridge (and there are at least 3 to choose from here), lovers have chosen the railings of the new Bulwar viewing platform by the River Vistula. At the moment there are only a few locks. Better get on it couples!! ;-)

Sunset over Toruń

Yesterday, it was generally rainy day with an overcast. However in the evening the clouds dispersed to allow for a spectacular sunset over my favourite city!

Authentic Creole food in the heart of Toruń

Restaurant Luizijana has been open in Toruń now for over a year. In that short time it has gained a reputation for its excellent authentic Creole cuisine and is undoubtedly one of the top-rated restaurants in Toruń. Comes highly recommend!

'Basculopia' live in Toruń

This evening, French performance art group 'Basculopia' gave a free performace in Na Skarpie (on the outskirts of Toruń). It was a mixture of drama and acrobats revolving around a short story. One can compare it with the incredible French acrobatic show that we had last year over the River Vistula.

Ticket Mission

Off to see Polish band Riverside perform. What a lot of hassle just to get the tickets. Firstly I had to go to a large electronic shop. I then had to walk all the way to the back of the store to a desk. I then had to wait for about 5 minutes for a specialised shop assistant to come and help me. I told him I wanted to buy tickets. After 5 minutes he eventually printed the tickets out. He also printed out an A4 document which I then had to take all the way back to the front of the shop. After paying the cashier, she then stamped the A4 document and I had to take it to the information point. At the information point another woman then compared the details  of the  A4 document with the information in the ticket. I then had to sign the A4 document and then the document was then checked again by a security guard. Only then was I allowed to hold my brand new tickets in my hands.

German Cemetry

This old German cemetry is located 8km north of Torun and is a reminder of when Poland used to be a part of Germany. Back then Torun was known as Thorn.
