Hats On Inside!

Polish old women never cease to amaze me. Here are two sat inside the warm confines of a cafe...and they STILL insist on wearing winter hats!!

Women can also get away with wearing hats on in church...unfortunately men can't. I wouldn't normally complain...but Polish churches in the middle of winter are usually freezing!! Sexist or what?!!! Hee hee!!!

You know, when you take off a hat like this ... "my hair look terrible!".

Freezing inside the church? Offer it up, as the Catholic saying goes.
It's a venerable centuries old Catholic custom for women to keep hats or mantillas on, and men to remove hats in church. One explanation is that it has to do with covering up or removing that which is a point of pride or denotes social status. It's also habit forming, as your photograph captured.
Here in the USA, it is my observation that in some other Christian denominations women's hats denote status within that congregation, but not neccessarily social status. Not every female congregant is allowed to wear a high ranking hat.
Let us also give due respect to the females of the British Royal Family, who are hat wearers par excellance.
See website below for cool church hats.
